Health & Safety Services in Hampshire

In the UK, businesses with five or more staff working on a site must, by law, have a written health and safety policy. Further, all employers have a legal requirement to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other persons who may be affected by the activities of the employer’s business.
HR FIRST

This includes industries such as construction, manufacturing, and schools, each of which has specific regulatory requirements.

HR First supports businesses to achieve CHAS accreditation, which is an accreditation standard.

Holders of CHAS are required to demonstrate compliance in a range of health and safety procedures and practices particularly essential in the construction sector.

Health and Safety Monitoring

At HR First we understand the varying pressures of running a business. That’s why we’ve developed our health and safety monitoring service.

Our members are provided with secure access to our safety portal to view audit reports and progress logs and access health and safety documentation.

Designed to Enable and Support

The safety portal is designed to enable and support business owners to fulfil their statutory responsibilities in a systematic, managed and cost-effective way.

It is paced over a 12-month cycle to minimise disruption and is tailored to accommodate each client’s unique operation.

Each quarterly visit is focused on a specific outcome.

Visits are structured to ensure that over the 12-month cycle all statutory obligations are satisfied.

The 12-month cycle also accommodates any industry or legal developments.

At each site visit an audit is conducted. Auditing serves to ensure regular monitoring and follow-up of identified outstanding issues and the identification of new hazards.

End-of-Assessment Report

At the end of each visit a summary report is produced setting out the findings, recommendations, actions and priorities.

Our report will assist you to implement what is identified as required, enabling worry-free health and safety compliance to a high standard.

Our bespoke audit report collates actions and provides measurable and meaningful feedback on progress.

Ongoing support, including legal advice and guidance between site visits, is available.

For peace of mind, contact HR First for a health and safety inspection today.

CHAS and SMAS Health and Safety Accreditation

We design safe systems of work which comply with the standards necessary to achieve CHAS and SMAS accreditation in the construction sector.

Therefore, for those clients who wish to obtain CHAS or SMAS accreditation, it is normally relatively easy, as the evidence is a natural output from the practices and procedures we create, ready for management to implement and embed.

For those clients who wish to go down the accreditation pathway, we provide support with the application procedure and with the annual renewal process, making it a stress-free experience.

Health and Safety Training

We design and deliver a range of health and safety learning solutions, tailoring course content to mirror the actual work environment. We can also create e-learning videos tailored to the client’s individual environment and situation.

E-learning is delivered via our online portal. The online learning management system provides an easy delivery mechanism for learners to access refresher and induction training.

We also deliver toolbox mini training sessions to address a specific issue.

E-learning and Training Videos

E-learning is a cost-effective, flexible, engaging and useful health and safety training tool. It facilitates the delivery of consistent levels of training.

E-learning also accommodates multilingual delivery of course content, which is ideal for workplaces where English may not be the first language for many workers. In accordance with best practice and the law, e-learning courses are also designed to incorporate assisted learning technologies so those with a disability are able to easily access training.

E-learning is particularly useful when addressing delivery of safety regulations awareness learning for those groups of the workforce whose availability is less easy to predict and plan, such as agency workers, temporary staff and those working shifts or variable hours.

Bringing the Training to You

We also offer a service with the delivery of various health and safety training on the client’s premises. These sessions are tailored to the client’s environment and reduce travel time.

Another advantage of the training being delivered on site is that it minimises the time and inconvenience for staff, making it a cost-effective solution. The benefit for the business is that the time personnel are absent from operational activities is minimised.

In addition, courses can be scheduled to coincide with periods which suit the client’s business. Some of the courses offered include First Aid Training, including Emergency at Work (1 day), First Aid at Work (3 days) and Manual Handling Courses.

Fire Risk Assessments

Within our comprehensive health and safety services we offer fire risk assessments and provide advice on fire safety compliance. In addition, we work alongside fire engineers with businesses proactively during building works to identify cost-effective solutions for fire containment and safe evacuation.

Accident Investigation and RIDDOR

In the event of a three-day injury or accident, we are able to support employers by carrying out an accident investigation.

We will work with the relevant authorities to submit the RIDDOR response to the Health and Safety Executive on behalf of the business. We offer clients ongoing advice on compliance and preventative measures.

Health Surveillance Monitoring

Regular health screening and monitoring, including occupational health surveillance, is a legal requirement to ensure good health where a risk assessment has identified a risk that cannot be reduced further by other means.

Where this is the case, we support companies to introduce and maintain a system of health surveillance, seeking occupational health assistance as required.

Safety Audits

Keeping your workplace safe and promoting good health as an employer should always be a top priority. At HR First we offer safety auditing, ensuring your team is health and safety compliant at all times across all industries.

Our service offers a comprehensive review of a company's health and safety practices, policies, risk assessments and environments. As part of our health and safety service, we also provide an extensive report, including findings, recommendations, and actions.

Proper safety management ensures you're compliant with legislation, protecting yourself and your team members.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, if your business employs five or more people, UK law requires you to have a written health and safety policy.

This policy must outline the management of health and safety within the company and be shared with all staff.

If you have fewer than five employees, you still need a policy, but it does not have to be written down.

A compliant policy should cover three main aspects:

  • A statement of your commitment to health and safety

  • Details of who is responsible for what within your organisation

  • Arrangements for managing risks and carrying out safe working practices

It should also explain how you provide training, assess risks, and carry out safety management to ensure ongoing compliance with legislation.

If someone suffers harm due to non-compliance with legislation, not having a compliant policy can result in unlimited fines, legal action, and reputational damage.

It also increases the risk of workplace accidents, poor staff morale, and operational disruption.

A clear policy is essential to protect your team members and your business.

Ensure the protection of yourself and your workforce with a stress-free approach; contact HR First today for a free initial consultation.
